Today’s product is something that I have had my eyes on since last summer. My friends D and S have these and they used to make such delicious sandwiches using the Panini press feature in this griddle whole of last summer for our picnics. I have been quite diligent about buying what I really would use with respect to my kitchen gadgets and I didn’t want something that would collect dust after a few uses. But the Panini press feature alone was enough to convince me to buy this product. My friends got theirs from our local Costco store. I have been looking for this during my past several visits to the store, but they didn’t have this in stock. So Yumjay decided to order one from here and I had no clue he had done it. I was pleasantly surprised that he actually paid attention to some kitchen gadget I have been talking about and took the trouble of placing an order for it:)
This is a counter top unit and is actually five appliances in one. It works as a contact grill for cooking burgers and thin slices of meat and veggies, this works best to cook something in short amount of time. Panini press can be used to grill sandwiches and quesadillas using the grill plates. Full grill can be used for grilling meat and veggies, full griddle for making eggs and pancakes and half grill/half griddle for cooking eggs and bread/meat simultaneously.
It has removable and reversible nonstick cooking plates with drip tray. It comes with adjustable temperature controls and the plates can be washed in a dishwasher. You have to wait for at least 30 minutes for the unit to cool down completely before removing the plates. The top of the unit gets very hot and only the handle is safe to touch while cooking is in progress. Top opens flat for double cooking. It has a sturdy metal handle which helps to adjust the cover to accommodate thickness of food.
The product comes with a 3 year limited warranty and a recipe booklet which has some basic recipes covering all the functions of the griddler. The functions I have tried so far are grill and griddle for Panini and pancakes respectively, both came out beautifully without having to sweat it out in the kitchen. It took about 4 minutes to make 2 sandwiches and almost the same time to make pancakes. It is priced at $75, a little pricey but trust me you can recover the price paid within 10 uses. It is relatively a new product in my kitchen and I haven’t found any issues with it so far except that I wish it had a timer. As of now I would say its been an excellent purchase and recommend this for every kitchen.
